Nearly incompatible series of paintings and sculptures act as components of one unified, ongoing body of work titled Attempt. The numbered series is characterized by both overt formal connections between successive works and abrupt discontinuities or reversals. Formal ideas shift, break off, reappear or never come back. The step-by-step-ness of Attempts mainly serves to generate a sense of the everyday with all of its repetition, struggle, and pathos. As an overall, never-ending project, Attempts weave a narrative of impermanence and the fragility of life with modes of making coming and going, echoing the ebb and flow of relationships, situations and experiences within the beautiful trauma of being.
